Mary Ryan Brown is a former gifted kid who is still trying to navigate burnout while enjoying her ordinary life in South Mississippi. She lives within and without the carnival of the Deep South—trashy enough to love a bologna sandwich, but stuck-up enough to correct a UPS driver’s grammar. She considers herself an outsider passing as an insider—a murmuring pigeon lady masquerading as a country club mom. This unique perspective, she thinks, makes Mary Ryan a worthy conversation partner and interviewer. Then again, she has been known to indulge in delusions of grandeur.
